Committee Reports

Fiesta Show

Fiesta Show Manager Bill Eash solicited class sponsorships for the upcoming Fiesta Show.
Dian Deal announced deadline for submission of ads for the Fiesta Show Premium Book was January 31 and provided information on the status of awards and ribbons. Jeanne Harford volunteered to send contact information about pewter awards to Dian.

Linda Cornelius announced that the ring drapes will be removed immediately after the show on Sunday afternoon with AAHA providing pizza and drinks for volunteers who remain to help. She requested that the Youth Club president, Micah De Leon, bring this up as a project for the Youth Club.

Mark Williams asked about making the show a “double show” per the recently passed new AHA resolution. Bill Eash, who was one of the AAHA delegates to that convention, expressed his opinion that the resolution would not be in effect until December 2008. Some concern was raised that the Mayfest show was planning to have a double show. Rose Marie Eash said she would request a clarification of when shows would have the option of awarding double points from the Regional Director Pat Barton. The USEF Annual Meeting where the approval of the AHA resolution will be voted on is this week, however, the resolution before them now states it would be effective 12/08.

Member Chandra Burkhardt announced that she would again sponsor the AOTS High Point Award and Bill Eash announced that A. C. Rodriguez had volunteered to sponsor the Liberty Class again this year.

Open Shows

The next open show is scheduled for March 29.

Clinic

The Travis and Kathy Braden Western/Hunter Clinic will be held January 26-27 at the San Antonio Rose Palace and is now fully booked with a waiting list.

Trail Ride

Member Sherri Youngblood proposed a trail ride at the Chapa campsite at the Bandera Natural Area March 15. On a motion by Linda Cornelius, seconded by Dian Deal, the board voted to rent the campsite for Friday and Saturday at the $300 rate. Upon confirmation of the dates at the next board meeting, plans for the club outing will be finalized and an invitation sent to all members.

Youth Club Report:

Youth Club Director Jeanne Harford reported that the Youth Club had an enjoyable Holiday Party and would be sponsoring two youth members to go to Region 9’s Horsefest event.
She also reported that the Savings Bond scholarship awards had been purchased.

Old Business:

2007/2008 Youth Scholarship Award

The board discussed the time to be allowed for the youth scholarship presentations, amending the original five minute time limit to 5-10 minutes per presentation, and confirmed that there would be a single $5,000 award, by consensus. On a motion by Margo Shallcross, seconded by Jeanene Pegg-Hundley, the board voted to award the scholarship 50 percent in the first semester and 50 percent in the second semester of the first qualifying year.

New Business:

S.A.L.E.

Dian Deal asked about the status of AAHA’s participation in the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. Jeanene Pegg-Hundley, AAHA’s SALE Liason, reported she had not heard from them, but would contact them this week and advise AAHA if she needed any additional help to accommodate their needs.

Announcements:

Rose Marie Eash announced that AAHA had received a Christmas card from the Munies, who had served as judges for some of the club’s open shows, and that Treasurer Bill Eash had requested that the $500 AAHA donation to the Arabian Horse Foundation go towards research efforts on founder as suggested by Board member Jeanene Pegg-Hundley.

The Program for the February Meeting will be the presentation of “The Arabian Horse Galleries,” a seven-minute DVD providing information on the proposed Arabian horse exhibit galleries at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. on a motion by Bill Eash, seconded by Margo Shallcross.
